Agenda Items
Tom Godbold
Dr. Cross did not receive the Distinguished Educator of the Year award. Tom will contact AAPG to see why; perhaps we can improve his nomination next year.
Insurance issues, carried over until another meeting, have questions for Mark. We might consider starting coverage in January 2004.
We discussed inquiry from Kuwanna Dyer about sponsoring a Wisconsin University Student AAPG chapter. MBGS is apparently the closest AAPG affiliated group. Item was tabled until it can be discussed with Bill Harrison and Mike. Later, Mike said WMU is also considering starting a student chapter.
Mike Grammer
Per e-mail, MBGS speakers are confirmed up through February as follow:
December 10, Dr. William R. Almon "Sedimentology and Petrophysical Character of Cretaceous Marine Shale Sequences in Foreland Basins, Potential Seismic Response Issues"
February 11, Dr. Steven R. May "Visualization and Volume Interpretation in Geoscience: 3-D Seismic and Beyond"
Tom Wellman
We discussed some changes to October’s minutes including expense reimbursements. Minutes approved with changes.
Tom Hoane
Checking balance is $10,078.99; Savings balance 5395.91. Tom has received the 60 rock kits previously ordered. Discussion followed regarding distribution. Some recalled that previously one kit was distributed per speaker per event. Decided that kits could be distributed to individual students at talks given by MBGS members. We also decided that MBGS could allocate $200 per year to spend on rock kits (at about $2 per kit). MBGS will spend $80 more for this year for rock kits.
Non-Agenda Items & Other Business
Tom Godbold will follow up with Stan regarding a notice to put in the newsletter about interest in an AAPG trip down the Grand Canyon or a WMU trip in the San Juan Basin.
