Tom Godbold
Discussed previously distributed information about web domain charges. Passed motion to pre- pay for the web domain for 10 years for a total fee of $79.50.
Distributed potential speakers list to attendees. Dr. Grammer discussed “visiting geologist program.” Dr. Harrison continued discussion of Earth Science Teacher of the year nominations. No nominations received this year but should consider candidates for next year since the nominations process may be a bit time consuming.
Decided to continue the May meeting in Traverse City in conjunction with the MOGA meeting. We also decided against the Waterfront as a venue. Mountain Jacks in Acme is quite accommodating without the need for a large deposit. Pat will contact them for reservations.
Tom Wellman
Minutes were approved. No other new business
Milt Gere
Had some follow-up discussion on insurance options. Milt will check to see if there are other group options available. Will transmit info to Mark. Milt also ordered 5 dozen rock kits.
Tom Hoane
Tom distributed financial sheets. Current checking balance is $10,905.36; Money Market is $5391.74. Mike’s expenses for Eastern Section Meeting were $713. Officers voted to reimburse his documented expenses. Dr. Cross was authorized for $200 expenses. New MBGS jackets were delivered for presentation as part of Mentors Meeting.
Other Business
Bill Harrison
Will check on cost of scanning publications at WMU as an option for out of print publications.
Mark Nida
Discussed possibilities of joining the AAPG trip down the Grand Canyon in 2005. Could be independent or join the AAPG group. Costs are significant for this week-long excursion but is a rare opportunity to geologically experience the Grand Canyon. Mark would like support from MGBS in the form of publicizing and promoting the trip. Mike Grammer also indicated that WMU runs river trips, which may be more affordable.
