Meeting called to order by President Mike Grammer at 4:40 PM
President Mike Grammer announced that Dr. Aureal Cross will be awarded the AAPG Distinquished Educator Award this year at the Annual Meeting in Calgary Alberta. Leonard Esponosa moved that the MBGS pay for Dr. Cross’ travel expenses, hotel and meals when he attends the Annual Meeting in Calgary. Seconded by Tom Wellman. Carried.
President Mike Grammer stated that he will send a letter to Dr Tom Vogel encouraging MSU students and staff to attend MBGS meetings.
A short discussion was held about the AAPG Eastern Section Link and Student Job Quest. To be continued next meeting.
Tom Godbold moved and Pat Poli seconded that MBGS purchase 7 WMU Geology Club mugs and 7 WMU t-shirts as door prizes. Carried.
Vice President Robb Gillespie stated that the speaker program has not changed since last month. Five speakers have yet to be decided. The next meeting speaker on October 13, 2004 will be Roger Slatt.
Robb Gillespie moved that Minutes from the August 5, 2004 meeting be approved. Seconded by Pat Poli. Carried. Secretary Bob Reynolds discussed details about an August 31, 2004 meeting held in Howell MI concerning Geologist Licensure in Michigan (House Bill No. 6063) Engineers and others wanted changes and clarification.
Treasurer Tom Hoane stated that the current Bank Statement has a balance of $5,775.49 and the Hi-Fi Money Market Account has a current balance of $ 5,429.38.
Tom Hoane stated he will contact Webmaster Greg Varnum about putting the AAPGE Section. Link on the MBGS website
Tom Wellman agrees to accept a position as the MESTA contact person for the MBGS. A proposed donation to the construction of a Time Line at the Eddy Discovery Center was put on hold pending additional information.
Pat Poli stated that the next MBGS Meeting would be held at the Coyote Creek Grille. Twenty seven people have registered for tonight’s meeting. The SPE will be meeting on October 5, 2004 at the Golden Rose.
It was moved by Tom Godbold and seconded by Leonard Espinosa that Dr. Aureal Cross be awarded an Honorary Membership in the MBGS. Carried.
At 5:42 PM, it was moved by Pat Poli and seconded by Mike Grammer to adjourn. Carried.
