Treasurer Tom Hoane stated that the current Bank Statement has a balance of $5,799.22 and the Hi-Fi Money Market Account has a current balance of $5,426.26. The Eddy Discovery Center will be constructing a “Timeline” and has requested MBGS financial help. Mike Grammer moved and seconded by Tom Godbold that the discussion be postponed to the next meeting and that we consider an article in the Newsletter for

individual and corporate contributions. Motion passed. MESTA has requested a MBGS contact person for the Eddy Discovery Center. Tom Godbold nominated Tom Wellman for the position but would need to check with Tom first.

Business Manager Pat Poli has been searching for a new monthly meeting location to replace Mountain Jacks Restaurant. She recommends either the Golden Rose on Okemos Road or Coyote Creek on Lansing Road. Pat will continue to evaluate both sites but right now the Golden Rose has the edge. Bob Reynolds moved and Mike Grammer seconded, with all in agreement that Pat have the authority to select the location that is best for our needs. Cost for the MBGS sponsored dinner meetings will tentatively continue at $25.00 while SPE is undecided at this point of time.

Past President Tom Godbold suggested the MBGS nominate Dr. Aureal T. Cross for the AAPG Distinguished Educator Award when the time is appropriate this year. It was moved by Tom Godbold and seconded by Tom Hoane that the MBGS investigate moving our mailing address from the MSU Geology Department to a commercial mail box in downtown Lansing. Motion passed.

Co-Fieldtrip Director Mark Wollensak gave an up-date on the Grand Canyon trip. He indicated that there was still space available in the second boat.

Mike Grammer mentioned that at the next meeting we need to discuss the AAPG Teacher of the Year Award.

It was moved by Pat Poli, seconded by Robb Gillespie that we order $300.00 worth of Rock and Mineral Kits. Motion passed.

Mike Grammer led a discussion on how to increase attendance at our monthly meetings. It was suggested that we could have luncheon meetings, a meeting in Kalamazoo, and a meeting in Mt. Pleasant and issue e-mail invitations several days prior to meeting dates to bolster the Newsletter. We could also issue personal invitations. More discussions to follow next month.

At 5:15 PM, it was moved by Robb Gillespie and seconded by Tom Hoane that the meeting be adjourned. Motion passed.

Respectfully Submitted, Bob Reynolds
