Meeting called to order by President Mike Grammer at 4:35 PM.
President Grammer stated that we need to consider the ballot for new officers for the 2005-06 meeting year. Leonard Espinosa volunteered his name for the position of Business Manager/Co-Field Trip Director and Bob Reynolds volunteered his name for the position of Vice President. It was suggested that Ken Petri and Dave Baxter be asked if they would consider having their names on the ballot for the position of Secretary. Tom Hoane said he would continue as Treasurer, Tom Wellman said he would continue as Newsletter Editor and Mark Wollensak will continue in Electronic Publications/ Co-Field Trip Director.
Mike asked Mark Wollensak about MBGS insurance and Mark said he was making progress.
A discussion was held about how the scheduling of meetings next year could increase membership attendance. Non-dinner meetings, meetings at various universities and less meetings per year were several of the suggestions. We will revisit the subject next month.
Mike suggested that the MBGS consider publishing some worthwhile theses and dissertations. More discussion at a later date. Are copywrites an issue?
Vice President Robb Gillespie stated that tonight’s speaker will be provided by the SPE and will be Kris Ravi. His talk will be “Cement Design and Placement for the Life of the Well”.
Mike Grammer moved and Robb Gillespie seconded that the May meeting be held at the Coyote Creek Grille because of current congestion problems at the Core Lab at WMU. Mike Grammer will give a talk about Bahamas Geology. Motion carried.
Treasurer Tom Hoane stated that the current bank statement has $6,377.66 in Checking ($200.00 is being held for the Grand Canyon Trip), and $5,452.85 in the Hi-Fi Money Market Account. .
A discussion was held about putting together geologic descriptions for the Rails and Trails Systems. Tom Hoane and Mark Wollensak will look into software and existing maps while Tom Wellman and Tom Godbold’ will see if the State of Michigan can have input as per publishing. We will revisit this next month.
Bob Reynolds stated that he has yet to locate John Wirth. He is apparently out of the state. Tom Wellman moved and Tom Godbold seconded that we abandon for the time being the Honorary Membership for John. Carried.
Tom Wellman, based on the above officers ballot, said he would send out via e-mail a request for ballot nominations to be followed by voting ballots. Tom will also ask about any thoughts the membership may have about meeting changes and also if they support geologist registration.
At 5:55 PM it was moved by Tom Hoane and seconded by Leonard Espinosa to adjourn. Carried.
