Meeting called to order by Vice President Robb Gillespie at 4:40 PM

We do not have a voting quorum for this meeting.

Vice President Robb Gillespie stated that MBGS has received a response to a letter sent to Ray Thomasson regarding Ray’s letter about a Geoscience Outreach Committee to help the National Park Service gather geologic info about nearby NPS parks. We need to check if there are NPS parks in Michigan and, if not, we can perhaps do public trail geologic reports. Tom Hoane will check out the trail systems and report at the next monthly meeting.

The AAPG Eastern Section is requesting nominations for awards. Murray Matson has been suggested by the MBGS as a recipient for the Service Award.

Robb suggested that MBGS consider a “Mentor Program” for retired senior members and retired senior ex-members in which honorary memberships are given for past noteworthy activities.

Vice President Robb Gillespie stated that April’s speaker will be Kris Ravi and the talk will be “Cement Design and Placement for the Life of the Well” The May meeting will be in Kalamazoo. Robb Gillespie will set out the program in conjunction with a Core Lab activity. A BBQ will be held and the potential program may be a discussion on where to find available Michigan geologic data.

Bob Reynolds updated the Committee on the purchase of a MBGS jacket for John Wirth along with his Honorary Membership. Bob will get background information about John and write a presentation letter for President Mike Grammer.

Treasurer Tom Hoane stated that the current bank statement has $43,786.68 in Checking ($37,932.00 is being held for the Grand Canyon Trip), and $5,449.71 in the Hi-Fi Money Market Account.

Mark Wollensak and Robb Gillespie will check into a new liability insurance policy for MBGS.

Mark Wollensak suggests that canoe trip folks who are not MBGS members be sent the newsletter for part of the 2005-06 year. More discussion next month.

At 5:30 PM Vice President Robb Gillespie adjourned the meeting.

Respectively Submitted,

Bob Reynolds
